geoscience - any of the sciences that deal with the earth
or its parts
- Agronomy
- the branch of agriculture dealing with field-crop
production and soil management

study of past human life and culture by the recovery
and examination of remaining material evidence, such
as graves, buildings, tools, and pottery

- the study of climate including climatic data, the
analysis of the causes of the differences in climate,
and the application of climatic data to the solution
of specific design or operational problems
- Economic

- a system of dating geological events in relationship
to the earth's history
- Geography,
geographics - study of the earth's surface; includes
people's responses to topography and climate and soil
and vegetation
- Geology
- a science that deals with the history of the earth
as recorded in rocks
- Geomorphology
- that branch of physical geography which deals with
the form of the Earth, the general configuration of
its surface, the distribution of the land, water, etc.
and the investigation of the history of geologic changes
through the interpretation of topographic forms.
- Geophysics,
geophysical science - geology that uses physical principles
to study properties of the earth
- Geothermal
- the study of heat generated inside the earth and related
processes
- Hydrogeology
- the science of ground water and its interaction with
the geologic environment

- study of the waters of the earth, especially with
relation to the effects of precipitation and evaporation
upon the occurrence and character of water in streams,
lakes, and on or below the land surface.
- Hypsography
- the scientific study of the earth's configuration
above sea level (emphasizing the measurement of land
altitudes relative to sea level)
- Limnology
- the scientific study of bodies of fresh water for
their biological and physical and geological properties

weather - the earth science dealing with phenomena of
the atmosphere

- the branch of geology that studies minerals, their
structure and properties, and the ways of distinguishing
them
- Oceanography,
marine geology, paleooceanography - the branch of science
dealing with physical and biological aspects of the
oceans

- Paleobiology,
palaeobiology - a branch of paleontology that deals
with the origin and growth and structure of fossil animals
and plants as living organisms
- Paleobotany
- the study of fossil plants
- Paleoclimatology
- the study of past climates throughout geological history,
and the causes of the variations among them
- Paleoecology
- the study of the relationship of extinct organisms
or groups of organisms to their environments
- Paleogeography
- the study of the geography of ancient times or ancient
epochs
- Paleogeology
- the study of geologic features once at the surface
of the earth but now buried beneath rocks
- Paleontology,
fossilology, historical geology, palaeontology - the
earth science that studies fossil organisms and related
remains
- Paleozoology,
palaeozoology - the study of fossil animals
- Petrology
- the study of the composition, occurence, and origin
of rocks
- Petroleum
Geology - the branch of economic geology that deals
with the occurrence and exploitation of oil and gas
fields
- Physiography
- physical geography
- Rocks
- naturally formed, consolidated material, composed
of grains of one or more mineral
- Sedimentation
- the process of suspended solid particles settling
out in water
- Seismology
- the study of earthquakes and of the structure of the
Earth by natural and artificial seismic waves
- Speleology,
spelaeology - the scientific study of caves
- Stratigraphy
- the branch of geology concerned with the formation,
composition, ordering in time, and arrangement in space
of sedimentary rocks
- Structural
Geology - the study of the structural features of
rocks, of the geographical distribution of the features,
and their causes
- Tectonophysics
- branch of geophysics that deals with the forces responsible
for movements in, and deformation of, the Earths
crust
- Tectonics - of, pertaining to, or designating the rock structure
and external forms resulting from the deformation of
the earth's crust, whether the result of warping, or
of fracture, or both
- Volcanology
- the branch of geology that studies volcanoes
Rock Classifications Go

- Petrology
- the study of the composition, occurence, and origin of
rocks
- Igneous
Rocks - a rock formed, or apparently formed, from
the solidification of a magma. Includes intrusive or plutonic
rocks, such as granite, and extrusive or volcanic rocks
such as basalts
- Sedimentary
Rocks - a rock that formed from lithification of
any type of sediment, chemical precipitation from solution,
or consolidation of the remains of plants or animals
- Metamorphic
Rocks - a rock formed through the transformation
of pre-existing rock into texturally or mineralogically distinct
new rock as a result of high temperature, high pressure
or both, but without the rock melting in the process. The
depth and temperature of the metamorphism define the grade
of metamorphism
